Pathology Laboratory Grossing Technician
Summit Pathology Laboratories is looking to add an enthusiastic, customer service driven team member to our fast-paced, growing pathology company, as a Grossing Technician.
As a Grossing Technician you will work closely with our Pathologists’ Assistants, Pathologists, Directors and team leads to provide surgical pathology services to our patients and our clients.
Compensation: The Grossing Technician position is a full-time, non-exempt position. The salary range is $22/hr - $26/hr, depending on grossing experience. Position is open until filled.
Grossing Technician Job Details/Duties:
- Mid-shift hours 10:30 am-7:00 pm rotating between our main lab facility (Loveland) and a GI lab (Fort Collins). Some days require same day travel between the two locations. Occasional requests to cover a 12:30-9:00pm shift at the main lab facility.
- Performing gross examination of simple surgical tissue specimens by following our structured training program.
- Test ordering and QC review in the supported LIS—LigoLab.
- Patient information access using EPIC at GI lab.
- Communicating workloads to the staffed Pathologist and PA.
- Assisting with client communication about suboptimal specimen inquiries.
- Routinely interacting with other staff & departments to triage surgical specimens.
- Maintaining daily gross room inventory, supplies, cleanliness, and general upkeep.
- Practicing laboratory safety.
- In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon Summit Pathology needs or requirements.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
An earned associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR
Education/training equivalent to the above that includes 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution.
-Must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR-24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination, AND
-Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, or the CAAHEP (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least 3 months of recorded laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.Education transcripts will be required for consideration of the position and will be requested from the candidate as needed.
- All work will be performed within the laboratory and in close proximity to electrical instruments, computers, and other laboratory equipment and chemicals.
Additional considerations will be given to those with:
- An earned Bachelor of Science degree with human biology emphasis and a human anatomy course, obtained from an accredited institution.
